HMRC Launches Self-Assesment Amnesty

HMRC are about to write to several thousand people who have not yet filed 2011/2012 self-assessment tax returns. They will then follow the letters up will phone calls. Taxpayers will then have until 15 October to file the late return and pay any tax and national insurance due. After that date, they may face penalties of up to 100% of the tax owing and possibly even prosecution. As a self-assesment amnesty it sounds more stick than carrot but if you receive a letter you should definitely act promptly. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if we can help.
