HMRC Remittance Basis Letters

HMRC are about to send out letters to taxpayers who are non-domiciled and claimed the remittance basis on their tax returns in 2011/2012. Their letter says, ‘Our experience shows most people who claim the remittance basis want to get things right but do not always understand all the ways in which a remittance can occur.  We want to help you get your tax affairs right, avoiding unnecessary contact and expense’.
So if you receive a letter please don’t worry that HMRC have singled you out because they think something is wrong with your tax return. Everyone claiming the remittance basis in 2011/2012 is getting a letter. If you have any concerns or queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re always glad to help.
